Hi, my name is Violet and I’m a big fat slacker.
Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way, I can mention that I have worked on Prince’s Ransom several times this calendar year. I created a nice finalized map for the world it’s set in, have added more world building type details into the story itself and actually did some other editing and writing on it. But… (and this is a big but) I still haven’t finished the first draft. There are only about 10-20k words left to go for me to tie this all together and set the heroes on their merry way into HEA land.
So what’s the hold up?
Lack of confidence was what started it. I was cowed by some reviews of Rogue Wolf that described its sexual scenes as mediocre. And then some of my friends whom I write with just for fun kept writing these amazingly heated and well written sex scenes, which just made me feel my work paled in comparison. And then I hitched a ride on the lazy train and camped out in the “I’ll do it later, but I’d rather do *insert other hobby here* now” car.
My husband’s been mentioning more and more lately that I need to write more, to get more published, which is hilarious coming from the man who bet me at Rogue Wolf’s acceptance that I’d never sell 100 copies. He has utter confidence in my writing now – so why don’t I?
I think it’s time for my Internal Editor to go on vacation again so I can just write these stories that are waiting in the wings to be told. I have two completed outlines that I’ve worked on this year. The characters are dear to me and I want other people to share their stories. One is a m/m Regency romance and the other is a contemporary m/f romance about gamer nerds (mentioned here before a long time ago, but now much improved in the outline and character development!).
But before I do anything else with those, I have to finish the first draft of A Prince’s Ransom.
